About Slate Grey |
A great colour and one of our biggest sellers. A really great dirty slate colour that works in many different situations from weathering landscaping to model wagons, carriages and loco's. This slate grey colour works really well on its own to give a dirty grey/black weathering. It also works really well with Mud Brown, Oil Brown and Sand Brown to make things really old and dirty. Weathering looks more realistic when the colours are mixed.

Landscapes |
On grass, tree and shrub foliage Slate Grey looks a medium to dark slate colour, but if a light coat is applied it is not that dark. In our opinion this is also one of the best sprays for use on landscapes, ballast and roads. If applied lightly it makes them look a little dirty black and if applied heavily, is nearly as dark as Soot Black. Works well on railway tracks and sleepers, making them look really dirty. Wipe it off the top of the track using a damp tissue after it has dried.

Models |
Slate Grey looks like black dirt when applied to model houses and trains. I apply this quite heavily in puddles on building with recessed mortar joints, leave to dry, then wipe of the surface dye with a damp cloth to leave black staining trapped in the joints. It can be applied lightly to give a gentle dark shade, or heavily to produce a very dark shade. One of the most visible sprays, but is still hard to see on dark coloured models.

A Dye & Not A Paint |
The sprays are translucent dyes and will not cover/obscure in the same way as a paint. The colours will look different if applied to different things like absorbent tufted grass in a landscape, or perhaps to the non porous coloured plastic surface of a model. Test the sprays before use to ensure that the colour is right. Because the sprays are translucent, they will also look different if sprayed onto different coloured plastics because the colour of the plastic will most often still be visible through the spray. Colours will look different if applied to a matt surface or a glossy surface. |
