About Light Grey |
A light spray of Light Grey is only just visible and is excellent for just very light shading, to just make things look very slightly weathered and less new. The shade will eventually darken almost to Slate Grey if approx. ten to fifteen light coats are applied. Because many coats are needed there is more chance to build up the depth of colour where you want it. One problem with Light Grey is that it does take a lot of time to add ten to fifteen light coats, so it is not the right choice of colour for anyone wanting a faster method of weathering - Slate Grey would be a better choice if you want to see the weathering effect quickly. Light Grey can also be used as a gentle, light dulling spray. This is a great colour to use to just create a subtle light shade of dirt. It is a very light spray, so do not choose this colour if you would like a quick weathering effect. Light Grey is very, very translucent and is generally not visible if sprayed on to a dark surface, even if many coats are applied. Because it’s a translucent spray dye and not a paint, it will not make a dark surface look grey. A light coating will make plastic model windows look dirty.

Landscapes |
We have found Light Grey to be quite visible when applied to lighter coloured landscape material, such as green grass or tree/shrub foliage. It does not tend to colour it, just make it look a little dirty.
|
Models |
We use Light Grey a lot at exhibitions on our light coloured model buildings, it gives an excellent gentle background shading. We usually combine it Sand Brown to create a more realistic weathering effect. It makes wagon, coaches and loco's look just lightly dirty. Light Grey is not that visible on plastic models, especially dark coloured ones, but does make them look less new.

A Dye & Not A Paint |
The sprays are translucent dyes and will not cover/obscure in the same way as a paint. The colours will look different if applied to different things like absorbent tufted grass in a landscape, or perhaps to the non porous coloured plastic surface of a model. Test the sprays before use to ensure that the colour is right. Because the sprays are translucent, they will also look different if sprayed onto different coloured plastics because the colour of the plastic will most often still be visible through the spray. Colours will look different if applied to a matt surface or a glossy surface. |
